Today I went not too far from where we are staying in Palms Springs to “Indian Canyons”--a reservation of the Agua Caliente Indians. Centuries ago, their ancestors settled in the Palms Springs
area and lived in canyons. They thought the land would always be theirs, but in 1876, the US government “gave” them 32,000 acres for their homeland. At the same time, they gave the Southern California Railroad land to build the railroad to bring people and goods to develop California.

The rocks in the trail stopped me from "trekking" further, so I sat down for a photo shoot!

Food was prepared on flat surfaces. Holes were created to grind the grain. You could say that this was an early kitchen!

Barrel cactus always face south and follow the water.

There is water here--and the water made the canyon after years of flowing over the rock.
