My knee is pretty black and blue today,
but about six of us Jackson Trippers went on the “Buzz'--a trolley
that has a route only in Palm Springs with 31 stops. This is a free
service of the city, and since there are four trolleys, one comes
every 15 minutes. I used my trekking poles to walk to stop #15...I'm
pretty amazed how fast others can walk!
The driver of the trolley talked how
crowded the streets will be this weekend because so many thing are
happening in “the valley”. There are small desert cities nestled
in this valley surrounded by mountains. Next to Palm Springs is
Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert (where I was
yesterday visiting Mel and Sharon) and Indian Wells and La Quinta and
Indio and Coachella. President Obama will be here this weekend and
that means that air space round the airport will be closed for thirty
miles in any direction for a period of time. Apparently, he has
friends who live in Rancho Mirage and may have bought a house in an
exclusive section there called Thunderbird Heights. He likes to play
golf, and golf is one of the things that made this area famous by movie stars when I was a kid. I
guess that means that flying into Palm Springs airport will be
complicated for awhile!
