Today I went not too far from where we
are staying in Palms Springs to “Indian Canyons”--a reservation
of the Agua Caliente Indians. Centuries ago, their ancestors settled
in the Palms Springs
area and lived in canyons. They
thought the land would always be theirs, but in 1876, the US
government “gave” them 32,000 acres for their homeland. At the
same time, they gave the Southern California Railroad land to build
the railroad to bring people and goods to develop California.
