Happy Valentines Day! I hope you like
the present I sent you!
Today I went to the College of the
Desert—which most people call “COD”....When I asked what it
was, I learned that it's a giant flee market. Now what does that
have to do with a college, you might ask! Apparently, the alumni of
the college started to support farmers selling their produce, and
then people with new-almost-anything joined in, and soon there was an
established market that would take at least three days to go through!
The rent from the stall spaces goes to student scholarships for
students of College of the Desert. So far, they've raised 8
million dollars in scholarship money! I did my best to help out with
the scholarship fund, but using trekking poles makes carrying
packages difficult. I saw one other person using trekking poles at the market.
In the “winter” they have the flee
market from 8 am to 2 pm, but in the summer only until noon. I guess
this winter is hotter than normal, since it is 88 degrees today!
