Good morning! Hard to believe that I
woke up at 6 a.m., and that's a first time in a long time I've seen
THAT number! Oh, well....it was really 9 a.m. at home. The two plane
rides here were VERY long but the second one from Dallas/Fort Worth
to Palm Springs was most interesting. I sat new to a darling
long-haired Dachshund named “Nestle” whose only communication
with me was through beautiful brown eyes—never a bark or a whimper.
He was sitting on the lap of the woman next to me and had a little
jacket with “Emotional Support Animal” written on it. Whenever
I've known about dogs being able to ride in the cabin of a plane, it
was only if they could sit under the seat. I'm thinking of taking
Maxie on my next airplane ride with an “Emotional Support Animal”
jacket. What do you think?
I'm going to tell you a little bit
about what I learned today from a tour of Palm Springs after I wrote
that paragraph...As you can see we're surrounded by beautiful
mountains, and from what I understand the water came off the
mountains for ages and ages and caused this desert full of sand.
But, you'd never know it is dry because there is an underground
river, and people are easily able to pump water to their gardens and
lawns. But, since California is in a state of drought, the city is
beginning to pay for rocks and stones to be put in the place of the
grass and gardens people have.
A tribe of native Americans own have of
the land in this valley, but they can't sell it. They only lease
(rent) it if they want to make some money. The weird this is that
the land was divided up so that it looks like a checker board, and
that leaves patches of underdeveloped land in between houses and
other buildings.
Palm Springs was just a little village
until some Hollywood stars started having homes here to get away from
their lives that fame brought them. There are a lot of golf courses
and some pretty famous people made them famous. A comedian that I
remember from my childhood was Bob Hope and he had a golf
tournament...think Super Bowl of golf. Movie stars and singers from
“my day were here: Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley,
Cary Grant, etc. etc. The tour guide was a local guy who grew up
here, and he said that the stars acted like regular people....sort of
like Jeff Daniels in Chelsea.
We went shopping after the tour, and I
bought some stuff that filled up my little black fridge. It's half
the size of my black fridge at home!
